SWEAT SHOP is a "cafe couture" in Paris. It is a place of creativity for people who like to sew, knit and eat cake at the same time...now that sounds good to us!
Similar to a cybercafe, you can rent a machine by the hour and drop in any day of the week to work on a project and grab a coffee.

The cafe offers workshops on pattern making, customizing clothes, knitting and even has guest designers giving talks about their work. And all of this takes place in a relaxed, low key atmosphere.
It would be great to see such a place in Christchurch where people can explore their creativity in an inviting environment, and make beautiful things that we surely all need.

Hey. I know you posted this a while ago, but I've just been flicking through your posts and came across this one; what a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI've recently moved to CHCH from the UK and have been wanting to do something for the city.
This would be an awesome idea for a collaboration with Gap Filler, don't you think?
If other people are interested, perhaps we should work together to try and make it happen? A relaxed space for creative people to socialise and a step towards healing the city.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts...
