Things we like...

Images: mademoisellepierre.com & sweatshopparis.com

SWEAT SHOP is a "cafe couture" in Paris. It is a place of creativity for people who like to sew, knit and eat cake at the same time...now that sounds good to us!

Similar to a cybercafe, you can rent a machine by the hour and drop in any day of the week to work on a project and grab a coffee.

The cafe offers workshops on pattern making, customizing clothes, knitting and even has guest designers giving talks about their work. And all of this takes place in a relaxed, low key atmosphere.
It would be great to see such a place in Christchurch where people can explore their creativity in an inviting environment, and make beautiful things that we surely all need.

Up in the Air Somewhere

Dip Cups and Pitcher

Water Tower

Silo Tealight Votives

We are delighted to now have "Up in the Air Somewhere", cool and innovative ceramics from Chicago-based artist and designer Susan Dwyer.

The artist is fascinated by the clean, minimal lines found in industrial architecture and the silos, warehouses and
water towers that are typical of the Chicago landscape. Her vessels, pitches and vases are all hand molded individual beauties. Some pieces are enhanced with layers of ethereal gold leaf and others are dipped in rubber.

Dipped or undipped, we love them all, they not only look stylish but can also be used in every day life!

In Search of Amazing Love

Phillipa Finch's Favourite Soap Bar

Phillipa Finch's Ideal Tea Cup

We have just received two great little products from Third Drawer Down, Phillipa Finch's Favourite Soap Bar in Ginger & Lavender and Phillipa Finch’s Ideal Tea Cup.

Both are beautifully presented in illustrated packaging from the animated TV series "The Gradual Demise of Phillipa Finch".

These are perfect gifts for yourself or for someone you know who is looking for love like Phillipa...

The Gradual Demise of Phillipa Finch is a highly acclaimed, and touchingly whimsical story which brings acclaimed Australian artist Emma Magenta’s newest character Phillipa Finch to life. The series follows the emotionally-thwarted Phillipa Finch, as she tumbles back through her past relationships and reflects on her search, not just for love, but Amazing love.

Follow the link above to take you to this fantastic animated website. Take your time to interact - it's cute and clever and the illustrations are brilliant.

We can't view episodes from NZ, but you can create your own "Heartwork" and many other things.

Enjoy!

Flock's 6 Months Birthday

Last week we celebrated our 6 month Birthday at Flock. We felt it was high time we threw a party to raise a toast to Friends of Flock for all their support, and to ourselves for soldiering on! There was a good turnout and we enjoyed wine from Black Estate, award-winning, artisan wine makers from Waipara.

Flock's been standing strong in the rather injured village of Sumner, working to bring beautiful winter clothing to the people of Christchurch...at a time when there is little choice for boutique shoppers.

We have been increasing our range of men's and women's clothing, our jewellery selection, and our range of ceramics and homewares
. The store is changing everyday.

Thrive Clothing in for Winter

Come Fly With Me....

Thrive Autumn/Winter '11

We have just received winter clothing from THRIVE - another fantastic NZ made label we are ever so proud to stock. Their winter range "Come Fly With Me" features an aviation-themed print, draping scarves and merino cardigans (and more...) and celebrates the glory days of flight, when being a "hostess" was such a glamorous occupation.

Thrive is also the home of the infamous
"Thunderpants" - which we also stock here at Flock.

Thunderpants are now ORGANIC!... New and Improved, Thunderpants are now made from
Organic Cotton. Still the same original comfy design, cut to fit and built to last!
The
organic fibres are grown and spun into threads in Indonesia then knitted, dyed, printed, and manufactured in NZ, making this a truly sustainable and eco-conscious product. Wear with pride, wear NZ made, and wear organic.
